Among small to midsize cities, Livability.com recently ranked Greenville as having one of the Top 10 Best Downtowns 2015. The Upstate city was included as No. 4 on the list because of its growing downtown population and entertainment options along with arts and cultural attractions, according to a release.
Greenville also had a high “Walk Score,” based on walking routes to destinations such as grocery stores, schools, parks, restaurants and retail. The 20601 ZIP code has the highest Walk Score at 54 out of 100.
The listing also cites Falls Park, the urban historic districts, friendly local business owners, multinational corporations drawing international residents, Fluor Field, The Peace Center and The Children’s Museum of the Upstate as boons to downtown.
“We’re really in a new golden age of American downtowns,” said Livability editor Matt Carmichael in a release. “Throughout cities large and small, the energy and resources focused on restoring Main Streets and urban cores is paying off.”
According to its website, Livability examines community amenities, education, sustainability, transportation, housing and economy related to places to live. It also issues rankings on small towns, college towns and an annual Top 100 Best Places to Live.
The site also features an interview with Greenville mayor Knox White, taken at the CEOs for Cities event.
